Norfolk Tour  1-4 June 2017
–  By Elizabeth Gammell

Really, we went to Norfolk because we couldn’t go to Ireland, which was going to be prohibitively expensive.  It became the more practical option for a trip and a good number of the choir signed up to go.

The choir was supplemented by friends from previous visits: Gillian, Brenda, Clare, Christine W, Jay, Barbara C, plus Mary (making her first Amici tour). Amici “loved ones” included, our Vice-President, Bill, my husband, Alistair, Robert Brooke, Jack Welham, Barbara Coates’ husband, Chris (another Amici ‘Virgin’) Mel’s delightful family, Pip Edwards, who has become a most invaluable non-singing Amici and, of course, our much-loved President, Brian Mack.  To complete this great group, we had our superb accompanist, Trevor.  Absolutely the “A Team”, to make music under the direction of our founder, Douglas.

An all-day pre-trip rehearsal took place on Saturday 29 April, which went well and subsequent practices got the choir into a very positive frame of mind. So it was an excited group that boarded a familiar Safford’s Coach, with a new driver, Graham, to take us to Norfolk…

Some highlights included: A concert in support of Cromer Lifeboat association, a rip roaring success raising in excess of £1000 for this wonderful cause and much enjoyed by all, a trip on the Walsingham Light Railway (the longest 10 ¼” narrow gauge railway in the world!) and a visit to the famous Thursford Steam Museum ride on including a ride on the Carousel – proving an Amici is always game for a bit of fun!
